We will discuss the Alaska economy, jobs forecast for 2024, and some of the conditions that are challenging us.

• Alaska is expected to add 5,400 jobs in 2024
• Alaska has had 11 years of negative net migration
• Our worker shortage is a result of an aging population, negative net migration, and a large number of job openings.

Karinne Wiebold is a senior economist with the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development in Juneau, where her work is regularly featured in the Alaska Economic Trends magazine. Prior to joining the State of Alaska, she worked in housing and community development in Colorado. She was born and raised in Fairbanks with her four younger sisters, but now calls Southeast home.
